Composers’ News

Composers Miles Warrington and Pierre-Henri Wicomb were both included in the New York Electroacoustic Music Festival 2016 for performances of their pieces  Across Parallel Lines (Acousmatic) and Solecism (Horn in F and Tape).

1.    Call for Scores: Stefans Grové National Composition Competition

      Deadline: 15 July 2016

      Winners will be announced in the press during August 2016.

2.    2016 Frank Robert Abell Young Composers Competition for New Chamber Music:

First Prize: 10,000 USD, Second Prize: 6,000 USD. No Entry Fee.

This Award was established by a generous bequest from the estate of Frank Robert Abell, a long-time Louisville philanthropist with close ties to the University of Louisville School of Music. He had a deep love for contemporary music and a strong desire to help younger composers.

The deadline for submission is 1 June, (please note) so do visit their website for further information. You may also enter on-line.

 

Days of Percussion, Italy

For those of you interested in percussion, it is worth visiting the Italy Percussive Arts Society website. There is plenty for everyone, including a composition competition. Do visit the website and explore whatever interests you most. Please note tight deadlines to subscribe for each category.

3.    BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Contemporary Music

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards seek to recognize and encourage world-class research and artistic creation, prizing contributions of particular significance and/or practical impact in one or more fields.

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Contemporary Music distinguishes composers, conductors and performers who have demonstrated exceptional attainments in the classical music of the 20th and 21st centuries.

AWARD CONTENT: The Contemporary Music award will consist of € 400.000, a diploma and a commemorative artwork.

Candidates shall be one or more natural persons of any nationality, without limitation of number in the case of convergent contributions to a given advance, whether due to a formal collaboration (with the candidate(s) belonging to one or more groups) or parallel working.

Nominations are in all cases indirect, and can be put forward by the representatives of artistic societies or organizations; national or regional academies of the arts; university departments, schools or research institutes; conservatories and schools of music; scholarly music and musicology journals; orchestras and orchestra associations; and radio and television broadcasters running symphony or chamber orchestras.

Nominations should be submitted through the website of the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Awards. Both nominations and the accompanying documentation must be submitted in English only. Email address for queries is awards-info [at] fbbva [dot] es.

The closing date for submissions is June 30, 2016, at 23.00h GMT.

4.    Launch of the Nuovo Orfeo International Composition Competition City of Padua

To mark the 50th anniversary of its foundation, the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto is launching an international competition for chamber orchestra composition. The competition is open to composers aged under 35 on 22 October 2016.
